Kicking off the New Year with Cyber Confidence in Carlsbad

January marked a powerful start to the new year as StayCyberSafe hosted a dynamic workshop at Carlsbad by the Sea Retirement Community — continuing our mission to empower seniors with the knowledge and tools to stay safe in today’s digital world.

Set against the beautiful backdrop of Carlsbad’s coastline, this session was filled with curiosity, enthusiasm, and thoughtful engagement. Seniors came ready with sharp questions, insightful stories, and a shared desire to better understand how to navigate the online space safely.

From spotting phishing emails to securing devices and passwords, the workshop offered practical, easy-to-follow tips that sparked important conversations and even a few “aha” moments among participants.

“I didn’t realize how easy it was to get tricked by fake messages — this helped me feel more aware and in control,” one resident shared during the Q&A.

The session ended with a hands-on demonstration and an open floor for questions, where residents expressed both concern and curiosity — asking everything from how to handle suspicious pop-ups to how to check if their Wi-Fi is secure. The energy in the room made it clear: seniors are not only eager to learn — they’re ready to take action.
