StayCyberSafe comes to Yorkville, Illinois

Summer is proving to be one of the most active seasons in StayCyberSafe's history and our Illinois chapter is no exception.

Student leader Shreya recently led a packed cybersecurity workshop at Senior Service Associates in Yorkville, Illinois - bringing free, curriculum-based cybersecurity education to yet another senior community in the state.

From the moment the session began, it was clear this community was ready to learn. The workshop drew a full room of seniors eager to understand the threats they face online, and more importantly, what they can do about them.

Shreya walked attendees through the most common cybersecurity threats targeting seniors today - from phishing emails and smishing texts to AI-generated scam calls and urgency tactics designed to pressure victims into acting before they can think. The conversation flowed naturally, with seniors asking sharp questions and actively engaging with the material throughout.

Everyone left with real, practical skills to protect themselves online. That's the StayCyberSafe difference - not just awareness, but behavior change.

The Power of Local Student Leadership

What makes StayCyberSafe's model work is the authenticity of its student leaders. When a young person from the same community shows up to teach seniors how to stay safe online, something powerful happens. Barriers come down. Conversations open up. Seniors who might otherwise tune out a corporate presentation lean in.

Shreya exemplifies exactly that. Bringing energy, preparation, and genuine care to every workshop, she is building something meaningful in Illinois - one senior community at a time.
